annabelle the modular

I've been building a modular synthesizer over the last year or so. It is finally finished, or as finished as a modular ever gets. There is always a temptation to add more and more modules.

The front panels on a modular synth are usually the most expensive part. I've opted for a ghetto approach using cheap plastic cases with stick on labels instead of the usual CNC aluminium with silk screening. This means my panels cost less the $5 and I can finish them in a few hours instead of waiting weeks for them to be delivered. Also if I want to change the design around later it is no trouble to add another knob or socket or throw the whole thing away and start again. Of course the downside is they look a bit shit.

Despite the shitty front panels, the modular sounds pretty cool. It seems to excel at nasty dirty sounds, probably due to the filters; a Synthacon, a Wasp and a MS-20. These three filters are all famous for being pretty rough sounding. Here is a short loop recorded in one take with some reverb and delay added.
